Arbour With 55 years in the beauty industry, he was born in Toronto, became a U.S. citizen at 19, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After working as a dairy milkman in Detroit, harsh winters prompted him to seek a new career. A chance conversation at a soda fountain led him to beauty school, which he joined in 1959 for $275. Despite a challenging first client, he persevered and opened his first salon in 1962. He expanded to multiple salons and beauty schools by 1973.
